Placement Service Times/Location: Chippewa Intermediate and Secondary School – 539 Chippewa St. W, North Bay, ON. Wednesday evenings: 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm plus additional time for set up and debrief. Sundays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Students to interview with host to discuss availability. To be negotiated with host based on the student academic schedule. Additional hours may be required.

Placement Duties: Placement students are expected to work with Spartans athletes in basketball skill development. Students are responsible for leading drills, usually the same set of drills 3 times. The coaches stay at the same station and the players move on. Following the drill sessions, there is a 30 minute debrief and plan for next week. Drills are to be delivered at the novice level, and extensive knowledge regarding basketball is not required. Students must review and be aware of  OPHEA guidelines relating to basketball in an extracurricular setting.

Placement Deliverables:

• Attend each session as scheduled
• Act as a mentor and coach to young athletes in a sport related setting
• Collaborate with coaching staff regarding drill/lesson plans
• Communicate with head coaching staff regarding any questions or concerns

Placement Eligibility Requirements:
Police check with vulnerable sector screening and CPR Level C/FA required. Successful completion of PHED 1233: Basketball is required. Candidates with an interest in education and coaching are preferred. Competitive basketball experience not required.
